CORNISH REX


General

The Cornish Rex is distinguished by its slender and graceful appearance. It is surprisingly heavy due to its strong muscle tone. It is covered in characteristic wavy, soft coat and gives an overall appearance of being high on legs

Viewed from above, egg shaped, slightly longer than wide, of equal width from cheekbones to the end of skull. Viewed in profile, flat skull, straight nose, strong chin.

Elegant, slender, in proportion to body

Ears

Shape

large, wide at the base and tapering to rounded tips, well covered with fine hair

Placement

Set high on the head, held alert.

Eyes

Shape

Oval shaped slanting slightly upward, medium in size.

Colour

bright, clear and pure

Body

Structure

Of medium length, elegant, hard and muscular – especially hips and thighs. Delicate bone structure. Body weight heavier than the cat’s appearance indicates

Legs

 

long, straight and slender, giving an overall appearance of being high on legs

Paws

small and oval, dainty

Tail

 

Long, fine and tapering;
well covered with wavy hair, preferably without bare patches or being bushy

Coat

Structure

Short, not shaggy, but slightly plush and dense, close lying to the body, without guard hairs.
Wavy, particularly on the back and sides.

Colour

all colour varieties and patterns are recognized, including those with white
any amount of white is permitted

DEVON REX


General

short wedge. Forehead curving back to a flat skull.

very short, with the rounded forehead giving the impression of a stop

short muzzle with a strong chin and "whisker break"

crinkled, rather coarse and of medium length

Ears

very large, very wide at the base tapering to rounded tips. Well covered with fine hair, with or without hair growing from a crease behind the ear to form ear muffs.

large, oval in shape, set well apart; sloping towards the outer edges of the ears

bright, pure and clear in colour

Neck

 

long and slender

Body

Structure

of medium length, hard and muscular, slender. Broad chest.

Legs

 

long and slender. Length of hind legs emphasised and front legs set on the body so as to give a slightly bandy look.

long, fine and tapering; well covered with short hair

very short and fine; soft and wavy, with or without guard hairs

Remarks

 

Many Devon Rex have the underparts covered only with down; complete covering with hair is preferable.

GERMAN REX


General

medium large, wide at the base, slightly rounded at the tips. Outside well covered with fine hair, inside slightly covered.

Eyes

medium in size and well opened; set at a good distance from the nose, beginning at the outer rather than the inner edge of the nose outline

Colour

brilliant, harmonising with the coat colour

Body

Structure

of medium length, strong and muscular, but not massive or coarse. In profile the chest is strong and rounded. Back straight from the shoulders to the rump.

Legs

 

of medium length and rather fine

Paws

well developed, rounded

Tail

 

of medium length, from a substantial base tapering to a rounded tip; well covered with fur

Coat

Structure

short and velvety, soft and very silky. density varies from a thin and soft to a thick uppercoat. Curly or wavy without guard hairs - very special to this variety.

Colour

SPHYNX


General

Size

medium, surprising weight for its size

Head

Shape

modified wedge with rounded contours, slightly longer than wide

Skull

slightly rounded with a flat plane on the forehead

Profile

slight to moderate stop at bridge of a straight nose

Cheeks

prominent cheekbones

Muzzle/
Chin

strong rounded muzzle and a firm chin

Whiskers

whole or broken, coarse

Ears

Shape

large, broad at base and open, slightly rounded tips. Interior is totally hairless. Slight amount of hair allowed on lower outside edges and on the back of the ear.

Placement

upright, set at a slight angle on the head, not flaring

Eyes

Shape

lemon shaped, large, slanting to outer edge of ear. Slightly more than an eye width between the eyes.

Colour

ideally to conform to skin colour

Neck

 

medium length, shape is rounded and well muscled. Arches from shoulders to base of skull. Powerful, especially in males.

Body

Structure

medium long, hard and muscular, not delicate. Full rounded abdomen, but not fat. Broad rounded chest.

Legs

 

length in proportion with body, medium long. Hind legs slightly longer than front. Front legs widely set. medium boning, firm and muscular.

Paws

oval with long, slender, prominent toes. Pads thicker than in other breeds, giving the cat the appearance of walking on "air cushions".

Tail

 

slender, broader at the base and tapering to the tip. Length in proportion to body. Lion tail (puff of hair on tip) acceptable.

Coat

Skin

Texture

appears hairless, may be covered with short fine down. Chamois-like, a feeling of resistance may be felt when stroking the skin of some cats.

Wrinkles

wrinkled skin desirable especially around the muzzle, between the ears and around the shoulders, although wrinkling should not be so pronounced that it affects the cats normal functions. Short, soft, fine hair is allowed on the feet, across the bridge of the nose and cheekbones, at the back of the ears, the scrotum and the tip of the tail.

Remarks

 

the cat should not be small or dainty; males may be significantly larger so long as proper proportions are maintained.
the Sphynx is sweet-tempered, lively, intelligent and amenable to handling.
